Food Art? Can Food be Art? — Turning a Hard Boiled Gemperle Farms Egg into a Car, Heart, Fish and More
The boiled egg – one of the most perfect foods. That simple boiled egg can now be one of the most beautiful foods on one’s plate. A food that your child can’t wait to nibble on. My sister in law, Kristi, first introduced me to these bento hardboiled egg shapers at a Gemperle Farms family gathering – since then I’ve been hooked.
I found these basic Japanese bento gadgets on Amazon (a set of six molds for $7). I have been amazed at how a boiled egg can be turned into food art ….. a car, a star, a heart or a fish. Kids love to pull these out of their lunch boxes and see the envy on their friend’s faces. One of the best benefits of shaped eggs is that you never have to worry about them coming back home in the lunch box. Kids will eat every last bite.
Making fish, heart and car shaped Gemperle Farms eggs.
These are so easy to use. First make sure you know how to boil the perfect easy to peel egg by reading my “Easy to Peel Hard Boiled Egg” post from last August. After your eggs are boiled and peeled, simply put the warm eggs in the mold and clamp it down. Refrigerate until cool. Open the mold and carefully pull out the shaped egg. Now you have food art!
Everyone has fun being an artist in the kitchen. Now you have an easy and simple way to begin exploring the genre of food art —- making food not only tasty and nutritious but an object of beauty and fun.
