The Western Poultry Scholarship and Research Foundation has awarded over three million dollars (adjusted for inflation) in college scholarships since 1965. The college scholarship program is funded through generous contributions from members of the Pacific Egg and Poultry Association (PEPA).

In 2023, 12 outstanding students received scholarships totaling $28,000 to assist them in achieving their scholastic goals. These college scholarships ranged from $2000-3500. The recipients attended the following Ag-related Universities: California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, California State University, Fresno, Modesto Junior College, University of California at Davis, and Merced Junior College. Scholarship recipients fields of study were related to the egg and poultry industry.

Our members have supported the Foundation since its inception,” explained Debbie Murdock, PEPA’s Executive Director, “The Foundation and PEPA are dedicated to providing educational opportunities for the students of today and the leaders of tomorrow.”

About The Western Poultry Scholarship and Research Foundation

The Western Poultry Scholarship and Research Foundation have helped nurture careers and research in the poultry industry since 1965. Since its inception, over three million dollars (adjusted for inflation) have been awarded in college scholarships to outstanding students studying agriculture related to the poultry industry. The foundation is a partner of the Pacific Egg and Poultry Association (PEPA), a regional nonprofit agricultural trade association that has served the egg and poultry industry for over 90 years. Through a united voice and cooperative actions, PEPA enhances the viability of the poultry and egg industries in the eleven Western States and Canada, and its ability to produce and market the highest quality food products to consumers.

Scholarship Eligibility and How to Apply (2023-24 Academic year)

  • Apply online on the PEPA website on the Western Poultry College Scholarships page. The application deadline is November 14 2023.
  • Students eligible to apply include college students and high school graduates who are either enrolled in or plan to enroll full-time in a field of agriculture related to the poultry and egg industry.
  • Qualified students may apply for scholarships, internship stipends as well as merit awards.
  • Students must be enrolled full-time and must attend a college or university offering a poultry curriculum located in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, and the western provinces of Canada.

“We encourage students to explore the vast number of careers that support poultry farming, such as poultry science, avian biology, food technology, agricultural economics, agricultural engineering, or veterinary medicine,” said Steve Gemperle President of Gemperle Family Farms, a PEPA member, “We need strong industry leaders to guide agriculture into the future.”
